GE universal remote codes
GE universal remote codes are 4-digit codes from Jasco, and the right list depends on the code list version printed in your battery compartment: CL3, CL4, CL5 or CL6. For a Samsung TV, CL4, CL5 and CL6 remotes list 5791, 5801 and 3301, while an older CL3 remote lists 29 codes starting with 3301. To program your remote, hold SETUP until the red light turns on, press TV, enter the code and test the buttons.

How to enter a code on GE CL5
- Open the battery compartment and find the code list version (CL3, CL4, CL5 or CL6) on the sticker under the batteries or inside the cover. Use codes from that version only.
- Press and hold SETUP until the red light turns on, then release it; the light stays on.
- Press and release the device button you want to use (for example TV, CBL, DVD or AUD). The red light blinks once and stays on.
- Type the first 4-digit code listed for your brand. The red light turns off after the fourth digit.
- Point the remote at the device and test the remote's buttons. If they do not work as expected, repeat steps 2 to 4 with the next code in the list.
- Repeat for each device you want to control.

Where to find the CL version on a GE remote
Open the battery compartment. Jasco says the sticker is under the batteries or on the underside of the compartment cover, and it shows the model number and the code list version (CL3, CL4, CL5 or CL6). Write it down, then put the batteries back.
If there is no sticker, run the automatic code search below: it does not need a code list.
How to program a GE universal remote
Direct code entry (GE, Philips US, UltraPro)
- Open the battery compartment and find the code list version (CL3, CL4, CL5 or CL6) on the sticker under the batteries or inside the cover. Use codes from that version only.
- Press and hold SETUP until the red light turns on, then release it; the light stays on. Depending on the model, the red light is a small light at the top of the remote or the power button itself.
- Press and release the device button you want to use (for example TV, CBL, DVD or AUD). The red light blinks once and stays on.
- Type the first 4-digit code listed for your brand. The red light turns off after the fourth digit.
- Point the remote at the device and test the remote's buttons. If they do not work as expected, repeat steps 2 to 4 with the next code in the list.
- Repeat for each device you want to control.
Test before you keep a code. Some codes control only a few of a device's functions. Jasco recommends trying the other listed codes to find one that controls more before you settle on one.
If no listed code works: Automatic code search
- Manually turn on the device you want to control.
- Press and hold SETUP until the red light turns on, then release it. The red light stays on.
- Press and release the device button (for example TV, STR, BLU-RAY, AUD, DVD, CBL, SAT or AUX). The red light blinks once and stays on.
- Point the remote at the device and press and release POWER. The remote sends 10 codes, blinking once for each. If the device doesn't turn off, press POWER again to send the next 10.
- When the device turns off, turn it back on by hand, point the remote at it and press VOL up, waiting about 3 seconds between presses. Each press resends one code from that batch of 10. When the device turns off again, press the same device button to store that code. If you go past the working code, press VOL down to step backward through the batch. The red light flashes twice at the first or last code of a batch.
- Test the buttons. If they don't operate the device, run the search again to find another code.
Start over: factory reset
- Press and hold SETUP until the red light stays on, then release it.
- Press and release MUTE.
- Press and release 0 (zero). The red light blinks twice, and the remote returns to its factory settings.
Code not working? Match the symptom
Each answer restates the manufacturer's own troubleshooting advice; the source is under each one.
The light doesn't do what the steps describe
Jasco says the most common cause is bad batteries, even brand-new ones: try a different set.
On RCA R271U1 remotes, an indicator that stays lit after the fifth digit means the code is not in that remote's lists or a step was missed. On R3F802 remotes, a POWER key that blinks four times means the same thing, or that the device key was released during entry.
Power works, but volume, input or menu buttons don't
The stored code only partly matches your device. Program the next code listed for your brand and test again; the manufacturers say several codes can work, and some control more buttons than others. A button can also fail because the device's own remote never had that feature, such as a sleep timer.
Volume works, but the channels don't change
If a cable box, satellite receiver or converter box changes your channels, the channel buttons have to control that box, not the TV. Program the box on its own device button (for example CBL or SAT) and change channels in that mode.
The menu won't open, or the arrow buttons do nothing
Jasco remotes may need shift mode: press and release SETUP, then press MENU or the arrows while the red light is blinking. On RCA R271U1 remotes, the SHIFT key turns CHAN and VOL into arrow keys and ENTER into OK; press SHIFT again to leave shift mode. If that fails, try another code for your brand.
A Roku Streaming Stick or Fire TV Stick ignores the remote
Those sticks use radio-frequency (RF) remotes, while universal remotes send infrared (IR) signals. Jasco says the STR button on its remotes controls Roku boxes that have an infrared sensor, not the Streaming Stick or any Fire TV device.
The code is rejected or has the wrong number of digits
You're probably using a list for a different version. Jasco CL codes are always 4 digits. RCA revisions R271U1, R341U1 and R3F802 use 5-digit codes, while older revisions such as 31862 use 4 digits. Check the label in the battery compartment and pick that exact version in the finder.
No code is listed for my brand, or none of the codes work
Use your remote's automatic code search (the steps are on each remote's page). It tries every code stored in the remote for that device type, so it can find a code even when your brand isn't on the printed list.
The remote forgot its codes after a battery change
Jasco remotes keep programmed codes for up to 10 minutes while the batteries are out. RCA's manual warns that remotes can lose their programming during a battery change and asks you to keep the code list, so write down the codes that worked.
